Trench, le origini di un mito!

It Girl by Eleonora Petrella - Trench, storia del trench

The history of the trench has its roots in a very different atmosphere from that of a catwalk: a story well imprinted in his name: “trench” in fact means “trench” and this is the place where the famous raincoat made his first appearance.
The authorship of the article is still disputed among Burberry, Macintosh and Aquascutum. In 1823 Charles Rennie Macintosh, a Scottish chemist invented and patented a waterproof material, thirty years later Aquascutum began making raincoats for the British army but in 1902 an English businessman Thomas Burberry, after receiving the order from the Ministry War, began to produce for the army the model considered the trench par excellence.
The first trench had a deep placket back, security pockets and loops for hanging grenades, binoculars, gloves, cases of maps and other items of military equipment.
Only after Twenties, the trench coat comes in stores and start to be chosen by common people for reasons of practicality, but also of cost: Macintosh is cheaper than a coat. In the early forties, with the advent of cinema, had its official consecration.
How can we forget Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Michael Douglas in Wall Street and Peter Sellers in The Pink Panther …

A piece of clothing unfailing in the closet, a garment who has managed go through the ages without going out of fashion, a collecting item for vintage lovers, a mat for men and women who choose it both for the day and evening, preferably in the classic version of khaki and especially a raw material for designers who enjoy distorting it season after season, year after year!
